About

I kept seeing families with good professionals around them, but no single role designed to hold the whole picture. DARVY grew out of that gap.

I am Melanie Aalbers, the founder of DARVY.

For years my work has sat where property meets families in transition. Inherited homes. Aging parents deciding whether to stay. Trusts and estates holding real property that several people have views about. It is work I came to through real estate, asset management, finance, and hospitality operations, and the pattern showed up in almost every case.

The family had an attorney. Often a CPA and an advisor. Sometimes a fiduciary or a care professional. Every one of them was doing their job well, and every one of them could only see their part.

No single professional role was designed to hold the whole picture. The family was left holding the connections between them, usually one adult child, usually while also holding a job and a life.

DARVY exists to be that. We call the category Family Transition Readiness, because readiness is what is actually missing. Not more advice, and not more documents. A clear account of what is true, what is absent, what does not reconcile, who has to decide, and what happens next.

Property remains a large part of the work, and it is where my own expertise runs deepest. DARVY is broader than property.

I am currently working with families, estate and elder-law attorneys, fiduciaries, and advisors who encounter these situations firsthand. If you are one of them, I would like to hear how this lands.

About the real estate license

I hold an active California real estate license and maintain a separate real estate practice. I am telling you that here rather than letting you find it later.

DARVY fees are fixed or project-based and never depend on whether a family sells, retains, rents, or distributes a property. DARVY is not paid a commission, referral fee, or any transaction-contingent amount. Brokerage, if a family ever wants it, is a separate decision and a separate engagement, and one they are free to take to anyone. No DARVY client is required or expected to engage me for brokerage.

Notes from Melanie Aalbers on aging parents, inheritance, property, and the decisions nobody quite owns. It is a personal publication rather than company marketing, and it is where I think out loud.
